Alessandro
Mendini
Alessandro Mendini (1931–2019), born in Milan, was one of the most influential figures in Italian and global design. Architect, designer, and theorist, he directed leading publications such as Casabella, Modo, and Domus, shaping critical discourse in contemporary design.
His work spans objects, furniture, interiors, and architecture, always positioned at the intersection of art and design. A central figure in the Alchimia movement, Mendini redefined the boundaries of postmodern design.
Awarded multiple Compasso d’Oro prizes and honored as Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in France, his work is part of major museum collections worldwide.
